i'm not the lonely one

Untitled so far. Not a fanfic, just me writing off the top of my head just now. Not really edited, and certainly unfinished.

Meredith smiled as she stepped down off the stage, holding her diploma in one hand, and catching her best friend's hand in the other, who'd been just in front of her. Leaning in, she whispered, "This is it! In three months we'll be at NYU and be on our way to those dream jobs we've been talking about for so long!"

Linda laughed out loud, ignoring the looks others sent her, and tossed a grin over her shoulder to her curly-haired auburn friend, dark eyes shining. "Hell, yeah! Roomies and internships at New York's hottest ad agency-what more could college freshmen ask for?" As Linda let go of Meredith's hand and ran ahead to join the rest of their class, the redhead followed more slowly, thinking over the blonde's words. What more could we ask for? Grinning, she shook her head, shedding the seriousness, and ran after Linda.

The next few months were spent with preparation. Securing their apartment in a rooming house near the outskirts of Manhattan-a 30 minute trainride from their campus-interviewing for their internships and filling out paperwork, and getting everything straight with classes as they made the move across the water from Jersey to New York itself.

"I still can't believe you're not taking the Pop Culture class at the same time as me." Linda brought up the familiar complaint as she carried some sweaters from one of her suitcases to her very small second hand dresser.

"I told you-I wanted to take the photo class in the morning so I could get an early start in the studios before everyone else shows up and uses up anything. Remember how it looked on orientation day? Four in the afternoon and everything was a mess!" Meredith called to her friend, while she put their small set of plastic dishes away in the tiny kitchen. She was still just a little disappointed with that feature-the kitchen was barely bigger than their closets put together. But with their limited parental funds, they had to make do.

"Yeah, yeah yeah. And I decided I'd use it at night, when everyone's asleep and right after it gets restocked." Chocolate eyes rolled as she arranged her jeans beside her sweaters to maximize the amount of space she had. "I just wish that part was as alike as the rest of our schedules. Because you know the classes are going to go at different speeds, and what we learn there is going to be important at the agency.

Meredith smirked and shook her head as she started to separate out the silverware, she glanced at the tv they'd already plugged in and turned on in the living room across from the counter she stood at, as a familiar name caught her ears. She spoke quietly to herself, first, "Speaking of...Hey Linda, come here. The agency's on the news." Her voice raised even as she left the kitchen and grabbed the remote to turn up the volume.
